Capturing Speed and Class

  • Brief.

Create a fast, print-safe editorial set from a live track day - celebrating historic Formula 500s with bold car-to-car imagery and clean geometry suitable for a double-page spread.

  • Approach.

Curborough Sprint Course - August 2019. Natural light throughout. Solo unit working within event flow and safety limits. Car-to-car from the back of a Fiat 500 at around 60 mph to keep pace with the 500s, which would stall under 20 - 30 mph - so no slow rolling rig pass. Polariser used to manage reflections. Focal lengths 50 - 70 - 110 mm to balance presence and compression.

  • Result.

25 images supplied - 10 used by the editor. Lead treatment ran as a double-page opener in Issue 208 (October 2020). Files delivered as 4x3 masters plus print-safe TIFFs with a neutral, magazine-friendly grade. Turnaround - 2 weeks from shoot to finals.

Deliverables

  • 25 finals - 4x3 masters + print-safe TIFFs

  • Hero car-to-car opener - supporting corners and compressions - a small set of paddock details
